Important Things to Know Before Starting Nursing School

There are a few important things to know for nursing. Some of these things I do not know about, as nursing is a State-by-State venture. I am in Indiana. Any history of drugs (including alcohol, if anything filed on a car accident or anything similar), or anything that could come up on a background check, could disqualify you from the program or from getting a license even if you do finish the program. Some charges will only disqualify you from working in the field a few years, others will be a life-long ban. Check with your state laws and Advising team first if this is an issue. A few other things to think about include:

  • You WILL be drug tested.

  • You will HAVE to take vaccinations… including the COVID Vaccine. You will also need records for all of your vaccines (Some schools will allow you to enroll without the COVID Vaccine, the problem is when it comes to clinical sites allowing you to work there)

  • You will have to have a physical done.

  • You will have a LOT of extra expenses other than schooling, you will have to have proper shoes, scrubs, equipment, books, and lots of paperwork filed.
